We are super excited to bring you the 2024 release from visionary winemaker Duncan Savage of Savage Wines.
Duncan Savage is a winemaker making waves in South Africa with some of the country's most sought-after wines. His creations are a delightful contradiction. The wines are crafted with a 'savage' approach to minimal intervention, yet they are incredibly refined and elegant.
Year after year, his fan base grows. Some of his wines have even achieved cult status.
About Duncan Savage
After completing his studies at Elsenburg in Stellenbosch, Duncan Savage started a 14-year stint at Cape Point Vineyards. Here, he became known for making profound, saline-driven white wines with intense minerality and remarkable ageing potential.
In 2011, he began his own wine brand, Savage Wines. By 2016, his wines had garnered such critical acclaim that he could work on his business full-time and put all his energy and focus into his wines. He bought a cellar in Salt River, Cape Town, where he continues to craft his magic.
His range consists of eight wines made from grapes sourced from around the Western Cape, ideally maritime in nature. Granitic soils are the focus, translating into wines of purity and finesse – a trademark of Savage Wines. Duncan prefers to pick grapes slightly earlier and use whole clusters where appropriate. This results in wines of great personality and freshness.
Savage Wines 2024 Release
2024 marks the 12th release from Savage Wines.
We have limited stock of Savage Wines' newly released wines available in our shop:
- Savage White 2023: The Savage White 2023 is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. It has notes of blackcurrant leaf, pineapple, pear and grapefruit backed by subtle wood spice.
- Savage Red 2022: The 2022 Savage Red Syrah has plums, lavender, cola, violets, and the characteristic Langverwagt white pepper. The palate is taut and focused, compliments of the granitic soil tannin structure and a classic vintage.
- Savage Thief in the Night 2023: The 100% Grenache Thief in the Night 2023 displays the purity and power of this variety. It has notes of cherries, bramble, herbs, and subtle spice with a savoury tension and chalky tannins.
- Savage Follow the Line 2023: The Savage Follow the Line Cinsault 2023 displays aromatic purity, strawberries, cherries, rose petals, violets, and subtle white pepper.
